The lecture is intended as an introduction to the concepts and methods of
theoretical quantum optics. It will cover the following topics:
Quantization of the electromagnetic field - Quantum states of light - Casimir effect -
Coherence properties - Photon statistics - Atom-photon interaction - Laser cooling of atoms - Open quantum systems - Decoherence. It will strongly emphasize the connection between theory and experiment and discuss recent
literature.
