# Quantum optics (Wintersemester 2016)

### From Institute for Theoretical Physics II / University of Erlangen-Nuremberg

- Docent: Eric Lutz
- Lecture: Wednesday 08:00 to 10:00 in lecture hall F
- Exercises: Wednesday 16:00 to 18:00 in SR 02.729
- Exam: Wednesday 15.02.2017 10:00 to 12:00 in lecture hall E

The lecture is intended as an introduction to the concepts and methods of theoretical quantum optics. It will cover the following topics: Quantization of the electromagnetic field - Quantum states of light - Casimir effect - Coherence properties - Photon statistics - Atom-photon interaction - Laser cooling of atoms - Open quantum systems - Decoherence. It will strongly emphasize the connection between theory and experiment and discuss recent literature.
